[Patient safety and health care quality].

چکیده

La seguridad del paciente es una dimensión clave de la calidad asistencial que ya nadie discute en el ámbito científico. Es un término que incluye las actuaciones orientadas a eliminar, reducir y mitigar los resultados adversos evitables, generados como consecuencia del proceso de atención a la salud, además de promocionar aquellas prácticas que han resultado más seguras, al tiempo que propicia un cambio cultural que destierre todo atisbo de cultura reactiva que culpabilice a los profesionales por sus errores. La inquietud por la calidad asistencial se centró, en la década de los años setenta, en mejorar aspectos científico-técnicos. Posteriormente, en la década de los ochenta y de los noventa comenzaron a plantearse actuaciones dirigidas a conseguir un uso adecuado de los recursos asistenciales y a mejorar la satisfacción de los pacientes. En el tercer milenio, la inquietud por continuar mejorando la calidad asistencial se focaliza en esa dimensión primordial de la misma: la seguridad del paciente1. Una temática que tiene verdadero interés sanitario, y al que las principales organizaciones internacionales de salud le dedican su atención. El abordaje de una política específica de calidad asistencial a nivel del Sistema Nacional de Salud Español (SNS) ha sido considerado como una prioridad como lo muestra que el Ministerio de Sanidad, Política Social e Igualdad (MSPSI) en colaboración con las comunidades autónomas haya situado a la seguridad del paciente como uno de los elementos clave en la mejora de la calidad.
